When it comes to tick-borne illnesses, a philosophy of increasing education & awareness is good. A history is even better. Over the past six years, Mainely Ticks has been a leader in promoting education & awareness of tick-borne illnesses to residents of Southern Maine and beyond. We've conducted numerous seminars and workshops through community based forums, adult education programs, home & flower shows, wellness and physician conferences and through the distribution of over 50,000 free tick identification-tick removal guides and educational brochures.

Wednesday, June 15. Wiscasset, Maine. Wiscasset Conservation Commission. Viewing of Under Our Skin followed by a Question & Answer session at Wiscasset Municipal Building, 51 Bath Road. Start time 6:30. Educational materials will be available for all participants.
Wednesday, May 18. University of Southern Maine Employee Wellness Program. This year's fair will be held at the Costello Fitness Center field house on the Gorham Campus of the University of Southern Maine. Hours are 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. Wednesday, May 4. Kennebunk Town Hall, room 300, Kennebunk, Maine. Start time: 6:30 pm. Dr. Beatrice Szantyr will host a "Tick Talk" on how to avoid getting a tick bite and what to do if you do find an attached tick. In addition to personal protection strategies, tick ecology and the signs and symptoms of Lyme disease and co-infections will be discussed. A short question and answer session will follow. Free. Saturday, April 30-Sunday, May 1. Maine Association of School Nurses is hosting the New England School Nurse Conference at the Holiday Inn by the Bay, Portland, Maine. Sunday, May 1. Massachusetts. Governor Deval Patrick has notified the Sturbridge Lyme Awareness of Massachusetts (S.L.A.M.) of his intent to sign a Proclamtion declaring the month of May as "Lyme Disease Awareness Month" in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts! This May will be the first official "Lyme disease awareness month" ever in Massachusetts. S.L.A.M is planning a May 1st event where the Governor will read the proclamation and kick off the month with a family fun/awareness event at the Sturbridge Town Common! Mainely Ticks will will conduct two educational sessions and distribute educational materials to all participants. Click here for more info.
Wednesday, April 20. New Hampshire. Wellness fair at the Conant School in Concord, New Hampshire. Educational materials will be distributed to all students, staff and community members attending.
Thursday, April 7, 6:00 pm. Saco Bay Gardening Club at the Dyer Library in Saco, Maine. A discussion on strategies for the prevention of tick-borne diseases followed by a question and answer session. Educational literature will be distributed to participants.

Join Ed, Bob and Barb Maurais of Mainely Ticks and Ted St. Amand of Atlantic Pest Solutions for one of these informational presentations followed by a question and answer session devoted to educating you on: The life cycle and habitat of deer ticks and mosquitoes; Tick identification and appropriate tick removal techniques; Mosquito and Tick-borne diseases; Integrated Pest Management Recommendations, such as personal protection strategies and more. Ed and Bob Maurais are co-owners of Mainely Ticks serving York and Cumberland Counties, and licensed Commercial Master Applicators in the State of Maine. Barb Maurais is an educator and maintains the company website www.mainelyticks.com. Ted St. Amand is the owner of Atlantic Pest Solutions and is a Commercial Master Applicator in both Maine and New Hampshire. He is a registered IPM Practitioner and is a current board member on the Maine IPM Council bringing thirty years of pest management experience to the table.

Tuesday, May 1 & Wednesday, May 2 Augusta, ME. May is Lyme Awareness month in Maine. The Maine Legislature voted on a resolution proclaiming May 2007 as Lyme Awareness Month in Maine. Also adopted was a resolution supporting federal legislation HR 741, the Lyme and Tick-borne Disease Prevention, Education, and Research Act of 2007.
Tuesday, May 1 Camden, ME. Tick Talk - Camden Public Library 6pm. Dr. Beatrice Szantyr of Lincoln, Maine presented a slide show and discussion on Lyme disease at the Camden Public Library at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1.
Wednesday, May 2 Wells, ME. Lunch ’n’ Learn Laudholm Farms at the Wells Reserve. Noon - 1pm. Lunch ‘n’ Learn: Tick talk with Chuck Lubelczyk of the Maine Medical Center. Lubelczyk illuminated the itty bitty critters responsible for spreading West Nile Virus and Lyme Disease. Participants brought a bag lunch and a mug for free organic coffee and tea. Free. Saturday, May 19 Gray, ME. Learn about Lyme disease 11am - 2pm. The Maine Medical Center Research Institute had lots of information about ticks and control of tick-borne diseases like Lyme Disease. A seminar and open house on the prevention and treatment of Lyme, EEE and West Nile diseases on Saturday, March 25, 2006 from 2pm to 6pm at Wells High School, Route 109, Wells, Maine. Snow date is Saturday, April 1, 2006. Six guest speakers and more than a dozen exhibitors will present a wide spectrum of information to the community on protection, prevention and treatment of these diseases.
Did you know that:
- There were 237 cases of Lyme disease reported in the state of Maine in 2005. According to the CDC, studies suggest that Lyme cases may be underreported by 5 to 10 fold. You could have Lyme and not even know it.
- Just one mosquito bite can transmit West Nile virus or other diseases.
- Education is the key in controlling EEE disease, but people still ignore proper precautions.
Learn what you can do to reduce your risk of contracting these diseases.
Bob Maurais from Mainely Ticks will open the speaker series at 2:15pm. Terry Walters, LaValley Lumber Licensed Maine Forester, Charles Lubelczyk, Field Biologist, Maine Medical Center, Dr. Robert Gholson, Maine State Public Health Veterinarian, and Shawn Mullen, Bayer Products Entomologist, will follow. The final speaker at 5:15 pm will be Dr. Teresa Caprio, DO, who specializes in neuromusculoskeletal medicine, Lyme disease and other tick borne illnesses.
Exhibitors will have educational information, program information and products on display from 2pm to 6pm.
